Methimazole, which is now available in generic form, has been used in humans as palliative treatment of hyperthyroidism and as an adjunct to radioactive iodine therapy or surgical treatment of the condition. Although not approved for use in veterinary medicine, the product is widely considered the drug of choice for treating feline hyperthyroidism.
